It is a moderately growing plant with long slender leaves that form an interesting colour, varying from dark green through to a red, sometimes showing a purple hue.
Regular trimming of this plant will ensure a bushier growth, rather than more spaced out creeping growth which is the more natural state.
While hygrophila lancea is not considered a difficult plant to grow, it does require co2 injection into the water for it to thrive along with high light to keep the plant not only growing low, but to keep its unique colouration.
Stems can grow from 10-20cm tall, however with good light and regular trimming can be kept at the lower end of that height range.
